- Twenty of Western New York’s favorite food trucks kicked off their seasons with the first annual “Freaky Friday” food truck swap from 5 to 8 p.m. on April 17, 2015 at Larkin Square.
Conceived by Betty Crockski and the Black Market Food Truck, the inaugural event was to “drive up” some fun and friendly culinary collaboration.
“The [Betty Crockski] girls here were nice enough to approach us and coordinate an event and do it with us,” said Christian of the Black Market Food Truck. “Truthfully, they did most of the leg work, but we were happy to be a part of it… It was something we talked about doing in the winter time to generate some business for all the trucks in the period of the year when it’s just a little slower. We’re happy that everyone came out.”
The event was sponsored by the Emerling Agency, UB School of Management, Cindy Paper Co., and Larkin Square to benefit the Massachusetts Avenue Project & Growing Green.
Participating food trucks included Lloyds and Sweet Hearth; the Whole Hog and Frank’s Gourmet Hot Dogs; the Great Fooding and R & R BBQ; Philly Flattop and the Cheesy Chick; Big Suzie’s and Thai Me Up; Flamin Fish and M & S Street Eats; Roaming Buffalo and Mickey Dee’s Catering; House of Munch and Sweet Melody’s and Pizza Amore and J&L’s Boulevard BBQ.
Greg and Michelle, who’ve visited most of the trucks before, were very excited to try Lloyd’s and Sweet Hearth’s culinary collaboration.
“It’s a churro cheesecake at Lloyd’s with some kind of cheesecake from Sweet Hearth and Sweet Hearth had a peanut butter cookie sandwich,” said Greg.
